Public buses run by BEST cover almost all parts of the metropolis, as well as parts of Navi Mumbai, Mira-Bhayandar and Thane. These buses ferry an average of 4.5 million passengers every day.
There are also taxis and rickshaws that are available to commuters. In addition to all of these modes of transport, a large number of people also own their own vehicles. These days there are more new cars being bought every day, all of which add to the ever increasing traffic problems. The government has made many efforts to solve the traffic problems that plague Mumbai. But with each solution come more and more problems.
The Metro construction in most parts of the city is responsible for a lot of air and noise pollution as well as a number of traffic problems.
