Adventure games are defined as puzzles, which involve an insightful journey into a different world that is largely comprised of solving problems. They have one distinct feature that separates them from the average classic puzzle and that is presenting more action to the player.

They also take a departure into the realms of the imagination whereby the player is compelled to follow a storyline to the end until a solution is found. Though designed for one player, they can often be played for free online where one can interact with others following similar independent endeavors.

Loosely, there are two broad types of adventure games including the action and psychic kinds. The former is rooted in the exploratory interest of human beings and it often leads the player into the subterranean world of caves. Here one is supposed to unlock various entrances either in an exploratory mission or in search of a lost gem. The player improvises a clever set of clues to reach the end of the story. Others involve fast action especially ones in which a thief is the protagonist who has to use the imagination to steal and also use clever stunts to escape capture.

On the other hand the psychic adventure games require the player to use mental powers to devise ways of getting away from evil supernatural creatures. In this case, the player can use charms to ward them off but this can only be achieved after player identifies where the charm is hidden. In this case, they have to find the route leading to this place and the key that will help them access the same. Telepathy is also an important ally in this case as it aids the player in identifying evil and hence, defeating it.

Almost all types of adventure games involve a case where the player is entrapped in a room or a more eerie enclosure. This can either be part of the plan of the play from the outset or as a result of loss of way when searching for clues.
