If you haven't been around lately, then you might not know about this new invention called the Internet. The Internet is widely agreed to be one of the greatest inventions ever developed by humans. I will likely have an impact on humanity as dramatic as the agricultural revolution did over ten thousand years ago.

The reasons are numerous. From an entertainment perspective, the Internet is unmatched in its variety and numerous sources of pleasure. Watching videos online, and reading a few of your favorite blogs is fast becoming a pastime for many.

From a professional standpoint, the Internet is fast becoming the preferred tool in any businesses arsenal. It was only a few years ago that having a web site was even an option for any business that hoped to enjoy financial success. Today it is an absolute necessity. Not to mention the vast uses of the Internet for public servants, and academic researchers. The Internet has truly made its place in common society.

However, just like biological organisms in nature have to always be on guard against parasites, Internet users have to always be on guard against viruses. These are programs that are designed to do nothing short of pure happiness killing evil, and must be protected against at all costs. They come in two general forms.

The first form is purely destructive, and serves no purpose other than destroying your system as soon as it has exploited it enough to send copies of itself to as many places as possible. The second variety, while not as damaging, is just as evil. These are commonly referred to adware or spyware, and they intend to covertly steal your private information for financial gain of their creators.

Of course, there are plenty of programs designed to specifically combat these horrible forces. Once installed these programs will not only seek and destroy these programs, but keep them from invading your computer ever again, making the Internet safe and fun, the way its supposed to be.
