data storage has come a long way since the computer for the first time when they come up for public use. Back then built in memory was all that was available. The situation changed with the creation of a floppy disk. Although not much space, has opened the way for a better recording equipment and in the coming years. Compact discs are a good way to store data, but have a limited capacity.

USB devices were the next big thing to hit the markets. These enable extremely convenient and portable data storage and transfer. But with every advance in technology, humans have the tendency to want bigger and better devices to simplify their lives. These days even a portable device with the capacity of 1 Terabyte is not enough.

The next available option is to look to the clouds! Cloud computing is a buzzword that is used a lot in recent times. The cloud is a metaphor which is used to describe the internet. Cloud computing is a means of using the internet for your computing needs.

There are basically three layers of cloud computing - applications, software and infrastructure. The organization must be used in different ways, depending on what they offer. You are at the bottom of the infrastructure of the Foundation. Cloud hosting is a part of this layer.

Cloud hosting is not a new concept, but due to advances in technology it is a lot easier to use now. It is useful for organizations that have a lot of information exchanged among its employees and those that have websites that generate a lot of traffic at a given time.

Earlier, the organization would acquire a server to support their website and other intranet facilities like email, document sharing, etc. As their website gained more traffic, they would have to acquire a host of new servers to support the load. This service is provided by a number of companies. It is called hosting. However it is expensive as you have to pay for hardware as well as for the servers even when you are not using them.

With cloud computing, an organization can put their website on a server cloud. When more computing power is required, it is available on request from the cloud. In addition, when less computing power is needed, servers can be released into the cloud.

It is also relatively simple to use as it allows the user to remotely access his cloud server through a personal computer.

A lot of portals, network file-sharing and social use of cloud computing to share information. The data will be loaded onto a server cloud, which is based on its IP address. This allows the site or portal, with thousands of users to download content, all at the same time.
